Privacy Policy

This policy explains how TranslateWindow handles information across the website, the macOS app, purchases, licensing, and support. We collect as little as practical and keep translation content, API keys, license keys, and device credentials inside clear boundaries.

Last updated: June 24, 2026

1. Scope

This policy applies to translatewindow.app, the TranslateWindow macOS app, downloads, purchases, license activation, update checks, and support.

If you choose a third-party translation service, your own model-service API key, Stripe Checkout, or another third-party service, that service processes information under its own privacy policy.

2. Information we process

  • Website access information. The first version of the website does not include analytics scripts. Cloudflare Pages and related infrastructure may process IP address, browser type, access time, request path, and server logs for delivery, caching, and security.
  • Purchase and license information. Payments are handled by Stripe. After purchase, the licensing system may process purchase email, product identifier, license status, plan, payment result, and order information needed to issue and support a license.
  • Device activation information. When you activate Pro, the app sends the license key, product identifier, app version, a randomly generated device ID, and device name to the license service. The device ID is a random UUID, not a hardware serial number.
  • Local credentials. License key, device ID, license status, and API keys you enter are stored in macOS Keychain.
  • Translation content. Source text, translations, OCR text, selected text, screenshots, and local file content are used only to complete translations you start. With the local model, this content stays on your Mac.
  • Cloud translation requests. If you enable a cloud translation service or use your own API key, the relevant source text, context, and request parameters are sent to the service you chose so it can complete the translation.
  • Local history and favorites. If you use history, favorites, or export features, related translation records are stored locally and controlled by the app's privacy settings.
  • Product analytics. The macOS app may send limited product-usage events to understand whether features are useful. Events do not include source text, translations, OCR text, selected text, screenshots, window titles, license keys, purchase email, customer email, local file paths, or API keys.
  • Support communication. If you email us, we process your email address, message content, and context needed to answer your request.

3. How we use information

  • Provide selection translation, screenshot OCR, clipboard translation, input translation, file translation, and live-window translation.
  • Process Pro purchases, issue license keys, activate devices, verify license status, unlink devices, and handle refunds.
  • Save your translation services, languages, scenes, history, favorites, and privacy preferences.
  • Improve the product experience, troubleshoot errors or crashes, and understand whether features are working for users.
  • Prevent license abuse, fraud, attacks, automated scraping, and violations of the Terms.
  • Respond to support requests, refunds, license transfers, and troubleshooting emails.

4. Translation content and local processing

TranslateWindow processes content when you start a translation. The app does not read your source text, translations, screenshots, or OCR results for website display, marketing, or ordinary website analytics.

The local model processes translation content on your Mac. If you use a cloud service, your own API key, or another third-party model, the selected service may receive and process the text you submit.

Screenshot translation and the live translation window require macOS Screen Recording permission. Selection translation and quick translation may require Accessibility permission. These permissions are used for the translations and interactions you start, not for background monitoring.

5. Sharing and third-party processors

  • Cloudflare, for website hosting, license-service infrastructure, caching, security, and network delivery.
  • Stripe, for payment processing, payment confirmation, taxes, and fraud prevention. We do not store your card details on the website.
  • Email services, for license delivery, support replies, and refund communication.
  • Mixpanel, for limited macOS app product analytics under the privacy boundaries described above.
  • The translation services you choose, when you enable a cloud service or your own API key.
  • Legal requirements, when disclosure is necessary to comply with law, regulation, court order, or to protect users, the product, or others' rights.

6. Retention

  • Local history, favorites, API keys, and license information remain on your device until you delete them in the app, deactivate the license, clear Keychain entries, or remove the related data.
  • The license service keeps purchase and activation records for as long as needed for active licenses, support, refunds, financial compliance, fraud prevention, and dispute handling.
  • Support emails may be kept while handling the issue, improving the product, and preserving necessary support records. We delete or archive them when no longer needed.
  • Website server logs are retained according to the hosting provider's security and operational rules.

7. Your choices and rights

  • You can clear local history, delete favorites, remove API keys, and deactivate the current device license in the app.
  • You can use only the local model, or decide whether to enable cloud services or your own API key.
  • You can email us to request access, correction, or deletion of information related to your purchase, license, or support communication.
  • You can request a refund, device unlinking, or license help. To verify the request, we may ask for purchase email, partial license key, or order information.

8. Security

We use HTTPS, macOS Keychain, minimal collection, limited analytics fields, license-service checks, and access controls to protect information. No system can promise absolute security. If you find a security issue related to TranslateWindow, please contact us.

9. Children

TranslateWindow is not directed to children. If you are under the age required to enter a contract where you live, use, purchase, or contact us only with a parent or guardian's permission.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the product, third-party services, or legal requirements change. Material changes will be announced on the website or in the app when appropriate.
